Last square dancing of 2006
Dec. 21st, 2006 11:09 pmTonight, we were busy.
kent4str and I attended a planning meeting for DC Lambda Squares' AC/DC, our advanced & challenge dance event held every February. Matters related to this coming February, 2007, were largely already under control but we conferred among ourselves to ensure everyone was on track. We then started planning for the 2008 AC/DC, looking at the list of potential callers to contact for availability. We have also decided not to hold an AC/DC in 2009 as we'll be busy hosting --and burning out on-- the 2009 IAGSDC convention in April of that year.
I was caught by surprise however by a suggestion from one of the committee members: that
kent4str and I be officially comped in for all future AC/DC events. The club has a list of 14 callers & spouses who are may attend our fly-ins free of charge, largely because we work with them extensively and wish to extend this as a professional courtesy to keep them interested & involved. Having callers on the dance floor is rarely a bad thing --occasionally, they can even dance adequately :-)--, but sharing knowledge among callers benefits all dancers, including our own. And now, thanks to the AC/DC committee, we may attend our own advanced & challenge fly-in gratis, beginning in 2008 (we've already registered & paid for 2007). Yay!
Tonight was also our holiday party and graduation dance. Six new DCLS members completed the Mainstream course last Monday. Alas, only three could make it tonight because of holiday scheduling conflicts but they acquitted themselves well on the dance floor. Warren Jaquith was the chief caller tonight, but
kent4str called one Plus tip, I called two MS tips and we jointly called two MS tips to close the evening. My first tip was rather mediocre --I really needed to warm up first-- but my second was pretty damn good if I do say so myself. Yay II!
After we returned home, I donned my DC Diamond Circulate secretary hat. This is the corporation which wil be hosting the 2009 IAGSDC convention. In the fall, we applied to the IRS for 501(c)(3) status but earlier this month, they sent a letter asking for clarification of eight points in our application. I had drafted a preliminary response but I needed a copy of the executed hotel contract to enclose as well as confirm some figures which I quoted from an earlier draft of the contract.
A few minues ago, I finished off our responses to the IRS, printed out the letter with copies of our supporting documentation and stuffed them into an envelope which
kent4str will drop into the mail tomorrow. Yay III!
I'm gonna go sleep now...
