Yesterday afternoon, the Chesapeake Squares started their new Mainstream class.

We haven't had one in two years for lack of sufficient numbers but recruiting is definitely a priority item. Because of individual scheduling conflicts, three people who plan to take the class couldn't be with us yesterday (they'll start next week) but we had two squares on the floor, including angels.

This particular class will run eight weeks, 1-5 PM; Dayle Hodge is the primary instructor but Kent & I will be teaching half of the class. In fact, we have next Saturday's session while Dayle is calling a previously scheduled all-day event in Philadelphia.

Since we didn't have to set aside a block of time for review, Dayle was able to dive directly into the dance program; I think our new dancers absorbed close to 20 of the most elemental calls. Future classes will be less ambitious as many calls will be somewhat more complicated than the early basic calls and time will be needed for review of prior weeks, as well as catch-up for folks who occasionally miss a class.

We have a good bunch; they seemed to be socializing well and had a good time. The DC Lambda Squares' Harper's Ferry Hoedown XI is the weekend following Mainstream graduation so I hope a number of this class (if not all) attend; I'm going to see if I can arrange a discount for them.

Yeah, finding an available weekend is almost an impossible task. There are so many good square dance events! And for those of us who are in more than one cult social organization, the problems escalate: we never get to attend Atlanta's fly-in because it always conflicts with Mid-Atlantic Leather. sight
