40th Birthday Party Planning... not.
Nov. 16th, 2006 09:54 amA number of months ago, I was thinking about having some sort of celebration of my upcoming 40th birthday in early 2007. As the date approaches however the less enthusiastic I am about the possibilities.
It's not that I'm at all anxious about turning 40: I'm actually a little surprised I've survived this long largely intact. What is bothering me, however, is that my schedule is already so loaded with activity that the thought of adding yet another event unnecessarily is more than I want to face.
From mid-January to May, we have Mid-Atlantic Leather, a concert of the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington DC (
kent4str's ensemble is performing), the ACDC square dance fly-in, my birthday, the Philadelphia square dance fly-in, my grandmother's 80th birthday, the Baltimore square dance fly-in and the Denver IAGSDC convention. Add to this our regular activities (trips to Cleveland,
kent4str's chorus rehearsals, our calling gigs and workshops) and the occasional unplanned surprise. I was hoping to squeeze in a weekend in New York City --I'm long overdue for a visit-- but I can't think when. When I look at the list to try trimming back, I have to confess the most expendable item is my own birthday.
I think I'll just let this one go and try planning better for my 50th.
