A number of months ago, I was thinking about having some sort of celebration of my upcoming 40th birthday in early 2007. As the date approaches however the less enthusiastic I am about the possibilities.

It's not that I'm at all anxious about turning 40: I'm actually a little surprised I've survived this long largely intact. What is bothering me, however, is that my schedule is already so loaded with activity that the thought of adding yet another event unnecessarily is more than I want to face.

From mid-January to May, we have Mid-Atlantic Leather, a concert of the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington DC ([livejournal.com profile] kent4str's ensemble is performing), the ACDC square dance fly-in, my birthday, the Philadelphia square dance fly-in, my grandmother's 80th birthday, the Baltimore square dance fly-in and the Denver IAGSDC convention. Add to this our regular activities (trips to Cleveland, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str's chorus rehearsals, our calling gigs and workshops) and the occasional unplanned surprise. I was hoping to squeeze in a weekend in New York City --I'm long overdue for a visit-- but I can't think when. When I look at the list to try trimming back, I have to confess the most expendable item is my own birthday.

I think I'll just let this one go and try planning better for my 50th.

You could always take a few month off from square dancing. You'd have lots of free time! Don't be disappointed about not celebrating your birthday- it's by CHOICE that you do all of those activities. not once did you mention work, and you mentioned only one or two family obligations. Everything else is about fun or sex, or both!

Well, the birthday itself falls into this category too. :-)

Rubbish. You only turn 40 oncet (well, at least in my reality, can't say about yours). You might not make it to 50. You could have a heart attack whilst fornicating.

Go for the birthday party. I've got a special present just for you.
;-)

My preference has always been to die at the hands of a jealous husband. Someone else's, that is. :-)

A totally agree with the majority - do something for your birthday. I'm there are many others that can come up with something for your birthday :)

Why not combine your birthday celebration with something else you're already doing with a bunch of people you love and care about.

I'm sure if you threw a late night birthday party for yourself at ACDC no one would mind!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr(not in a good way)

You left out the birthdays of your father, two of your sisters, and my entire family. But then they're lucky if they get a card - I guess you were just listing things that'll involve time investment.

Plus there's opening the trailer, the Roseland (campground) mid-winter reunion for seasonal members, and a few other things.

Suddenly I'm tired...
