C2 Weekend

On Friday, [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str, [livejournal.com profile] deege and I headed to York, PA, for a solid weekend of C2 dancing. We've finished the class and while we're no worse than any of the other folks in our class, we do need real-world floor time to get fully up to speed. A solid weekend of dancing with few distractions would be just the ticket.

For reasons I can't entirely explain, I was utterly wired Friday evening. Whatever sugar and caffeine I had consumed earlier in the day caught up with compounded interest by the evening. The results were more amusing than tragic: I was moving faster than I normally would (already faster than most of the square) and my overall success rate wasn't impacted one way or another. It just made the contrast between me and the retirees even more stark.

Saturday was good too. Less wired on sugar, I was more in sync with the rest of our squares.

We actually started Saturday at the local farmers' market. As planned we bought some pies (some for the evening party, some for home), some cheeses and lots of dark chocolate almond bark. And breakfast was composed of breakfast burritos which could have fed the entire state of Delaware. Seriously, what kind of person could actually eat the whole damn thing?!

People were definitely slowly coming undone mentally Sunday morning in the last session. I know John wasn't calling as hard as he could have this weekend: the floor did well with John's C2 lite (which would be a medium-level difficulty for most other calls) but we were suffering breakdowns with more complicated formations or combinations of calls. We wrapped up by noon and were on the road by 1pm for home.

In all, I had a fun time and am looking forward to next year's C2 weekend, probably the first weekend of March, 2011, although the hotel contracts haven't been signed yet. I hope we'll also keep pressing onwards up the learning curve so we can tackle the harder C2 material eventually.
