April Hike!
Mar. 5th, 2010 02:28 pmEvery year, a group of friends including
kent4str,
cuyahogarvr and me go for a day hike up to Wolf Gap/Big Schloss in the George Washington National Forest on the border between Virginia and West Virginia.
This isn't an extreme-sport kind of hike: it will be about a two mile walk from the parking lot to the rock formation (there is a steep incline in the first quarter-mile but we go gently on that stretch) over a well-marked and cleared trail. We would have lunch on the rock formation itself and then, when fully rested, we hike back to the vehicles.
We plan to congregate and carpool at the Vienna metro station at 9am, take about 90 minutes to drive to the site, hike/lunch/nap for a couple of hours then hike back to the vehicles. Those who are interested (those trapped in my car with me have no choice :-)) may stop by the local Dairy Queen on our way back towards civilization for a celebratory sundae or cone. Traffic willing, we'd be back in DC around 5-6 pm.
When? We're planning for Saturday, April 10. If the weather is ugly, we have a fall-back date of Sunday, April 25.
Interested? Let me know and I'll add you to our RSVP list. Further details (maps, list of things to bring, etc.) will be forthcoming as we approach the date.
