The snow began falling last night and hasn't let up yet. There's about a foot of snow in the streets right now and could reach 20" before this storm is over around midnight tonight.

The weather reports indicate this is the heaviest snow recorded for a December storm in Washington DC and the heaviest single snowfall since 1922. Yay us.

I made a lame attempt to shovel our way out from the front door to the sidewalk but gave up after a half-hour: snow was falling so quickly that it was clear my efforts would be invisible in a couple of hours.

I tried shovelling more snow this evening since it looked like the rate of fall was tapering off. Nope, it was just a lull... it's back up to full snowfall again.

I redug the paths I had cleared this afternoon and cleared the full sidewalk to the east of our house before my back told me it had had enough. The bottom 1-3" of snow is actually slush which sticks to the shovel so it's an extra strain to push around. Not pleasant.

With the extra snow, my car is rapidly disappearing. It may be invisible except as a big white lump by morning:

The hottub is well buried and our backyard barbecue looks like an alien garden gnome refugee from Halo 3:
