bjarvis: (men at work)
Mondays are rarely about progress for me... they're about maintenance. It's my way of easing into the new week with minimal drama.

Personal maintenance:
My knee is much better this morning. Mornings are good: it's the accumulated abuse of the day which causes pain towards the end of the day. Still, I'm in good shape.
My knee isn't my only square dance-related injury of late. Just days before the recent IAGSDC convention, I was clobbered in the forehead by a metal door swinging open unexpectedly, creating a small bleeding cut in my forehead. Fortunately, it wasn't too noticeable by the time of the convention itself. Last Saturday, I knelt to pick up a pair of shoes and nailed my forehead again on the edge of the entertainment center of our hotel room, creating an expanding red bump dead center of my forehead. Ow.
My beard needs a severe trim. A haircut wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Square Dance Maintenance:
I need to review last week's new C2 calls in preparation for tonight's class. My brain wasn't exactly receptive to the new stuff last Monday so I need to work more on that tonight.
I want to review and redraft some of my older A2 cards; they don't flow as easily as I'd like and this weekend's fly-in has given me lots of inspiration and ideas of how to improve my sequences.
There's a C1 workshop this coming Wednesday... I'd like to write some new material for a tip or two for that.

Financial Maintenance:
I need to move some money around between accounts to ensure all bills are covered and to pay down credit cards.
I have a growing stack of reimbursement requests to submit to my employer which I need to get into order.
I also have a growing stack of reimbursement requests from my medical flex spending account to submit.

Travel Maintenance:
I need to get the oil changed in my Civic. Not a pressing issue but it needs to be done soon.
I need to look into getting a wireless broadband modem from Verizon Wireless. We're still planning to be at the trailer in West Virginia for the Memorial Day weekend; I'd like to know if the modem will work there. Verizon has a 30 day return policy so I'd like to time this appropriately to be able to respond to work stuff if needed but with limited impact if it doesn't work.
I've been authorized to proceed with a second trip to California to spend time at our Foster City headquarters. I need to nail down the precise dates and travel arrangements. Updates are pending.

There's more items but this is a good starting list to organize myself for the day.

We had a stumbling start to the evening. It wasn't a big deal but John was just back from calling on the west coast, a lot of dancers seemed tired or out of sorts and we were short enough bodies to complete a third square. The warm-up tips weren't pretty but we started getting back into things again by the midway point of the class.

This week's new calls were all fairly simple: "cut the galaxy," "flip the galaxy" and "shazam." Drilling those as well as reviewing the new(ish) calls from the past two weeks went faster and better than I expected. In fact, the last two tips went swimmingly.

Dancing will be light this week and I have no calling gigs. As much as possible, I intend to take this extra time to rest and relax.
