Life Chugs On
Apr. 25th, 2009 07:40 pmThe past week has been a bit of a roller coaster but generally not bad.
Square dance calling on Tuesday and Thursday went well. I even shared a couple of tips with Doren at Wednesday's C1 class.
My right knee is getting better. I've been keeping a great deal of pressure off the leg, forcing myself to sleep on my left side to give my right leg more space to find a non-stressing position and resisted the urges to dance, walk or run. I have a routine check-up with my GP on Tuesday morning so I'll bring up the issue of my knee while there; I strongly suspect he will simply refer me to a specialist for a more thorough exam.
Work has been a flurry of activity lately. There was some sort of major outage last Monday night caused by a disastrous code deployment. While everything was rolled back within hours, it was a great deal of pain and, IMHO, should never have happened in the first place. Our VP of operations has held a couple of open meetings soliciting feedback and advice from the teams; I've sent him an email detailing what I perceive to be serious lapses and faults in our process. So far, I haven't heard back except a general acknowledgment he has received my note.
In the interim, there have been servers to build, systems to recable and purchasing to be done. I'm also starting to make arrangements for another business trip to the Bay area of California. At the moment, we're waiting for funding approval from my VP. After my last email, perhaps that may be wishful thinking. :-)
Today was spent largely with
kent4str's parents, first for lunch and then helping move some furniture. It's easy to tell we've visited his parents as, per usual, we now have an additional piece of furniture from them. In this case, it's a dresser which
kent4str plans to put in the smaller guestroom, replacing a large Ikea wardrobe. We'll see.
Tonight, our plan is to relax at home. There is much activity coming up in the next week so we'll take the rest when we can.
