Recovering

I've safely returned from California mid-week but apparently caught a nasty cold bug. Thursday was painful but I could sleep late because of the early hour of my arrival and that took the edge off the worst. Friday, however, I was in a truly ugly state even as my presence was essential at the data center in Sterling. At least I was able to complete a number of tasks successfully while there, although I went to bed almost immediately upon returning home.

Today is vastly better although I still have a way to go before I can claim full recovery. We were supposed to be in Pittsburgh, PA, this weekend for the annual Roseland Resort reunion, a weekend of restaurants and bar hopping with other folks who have permanent trailers at the same campground in West Virginia as our own. Clearly, we ([livejournal.com profile] kent4str has a cold too, independent of mine) were in no state to travel and certainly don't want to pass this along to our friends so we've stayed in and are letting [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr nurse us back to health.

At least I can catch up on a backlog of email, convention stuff and domestic chores.

We have a very pressing deadline to tell our convention hotel how many kosher meals we'll need for the banquet and brunch in April. Apparently, local suppliers have been closing due to the recession and the remaining suppliers are over-stressed, especially since our convention lands on passover.

While totalling up the necessary kosher meals (about 10), I looked into the various other dietary requirements for our registered attendees. Fully 10% of the registrants have dietary issues of some kind, about double what I would have predicted.

I would never make it in event management. I work in a commodity world: having to develop so many different customized meals for so many people would drive me nuts. I would have thrown up my arms long ago and let everyone fend for themselves as best they can because I can barely keep up with my own issues that I resist inheriting everyone else's. It's a good thing for everyone I work in another field.
