Counting Down the Hours
Feb. 4th, 2009 01:27 pmToday is my last day in the San Francisco Bay area for this trip. I've checked out of the hotel and am currently sitting in the office, waiting for my boss to finish a couple of minor tasks so we can walk through some code deployment procedures which will likely dominate my future worklife.
Monday evening, I went out for a seafood dinner with Lou Ceci, a longtime (20+ years!) friend of mine, and his roomie, Wade. The sea bass, sorbet and conversation were all exquisite. It was nice to catch up but the evening ended all too soon as it was a school night for all of us.
Tuesday, I was able to complete some security stuff for one of our clients: getting finger-printed in downtown San Francisco, then a drug test by a lab in Palo Alto. Getting them both out of the way while here is a huge relief: I really wasn't looking forward to having to find on my own some means of accomplishing this in DC.
Following my fingerprinting Tuesday morning, I stopped by Le Bureau Muffin, the radio station(s) where
low_fat_muffin earns the vast sums needed for
kateydog's kibble and spa treatments. The tour was fascinating: while I've been in recording studios before, I hadn't been inside a radio station. Each department was distinct in its decor... you could really tell when you had slipped from Marketing into Accounting. And
low_fat_muffin gave me MuffinSwag, an embroidered polo shirt I'll model here when I have a moment.
We took a brief coffee break to enjoy some pastries and drinks before
low_fat_muffin needed to return to work and I had to head to BART to return to Foster City. Next time, our place! :-)
In the evening, I met up with
dhbearguy for a wonderful pasta dinner in the Castro area. We've chatted online periodically for a while but this was the first time I had met him in person and he's every bit as charming & handsome as he appears on LJ. It seems we've attended a number of dance and choral events together in the past but never quite met. Figures, but it's a good excuse to make up for lost time. :-)
I'm not exactly looking forward to my flight ce soir. I miss home and my dear husbands but I fear I may not get much sleep on the red-eye back to DC and there's so much to do in the next few days. Indeed, the minute I get off the plane, there's a quick change I have to make at the data center before I get home so that I won't have to make a special trip later.
I'm planning to have lunch with Lou Ceci today --his office is very near mine. My flight departs at 9:35 PM so I'll have an hour or two of solitude to decompress, savour the events of the past few days and try to relax back into my regular east coast life.
