Dec. 18th, 2008

This day has five knocks against it so far:

1. My arm still hurts from my pneumonia vaccination Tuesday. In fact, it was throbbing so badly last night, I could hardly move it without pain while attempting to square dance C1. Thanks to Ibuprofin last night and "non-aspirin maximum strength" tablets from the first aid kit at the office today, it's at least manageable.

2. It's still raining outside. I don't usually mind the rain but this is getting tedious. I'd prefer either sunshine or blinding snow, whichever is available, just for the change.

3. I have done absolutely no xmas shopping for the hubbies, but let's keep taht between us, shall we?

4. I'm working from our Reston, VA, office today. Enough said.

5. It's not yet Friday. Ditto.

The day is not an entire loss though.

Our Reston office is across the street from a Five Guys Burgers & Fries so I intend to indulge at lunchtime today.

And tomorrow is payday. My estimates for my final paycheck from my Dear Employer were significantly off --I have to check the numbers yet to figure out why-- so I won't be have enough to stow money into various savings accounts after wiping out a stack of bills. Still, large amounts of short-term debt will be retired.

Since this is my last paycheck for for 2008, I can at least begin a first draft of my income tax filings for the year. With a little luck, the refund will be available soon enough to top up our savings.

With the recent plunge in mortgage interest rates, I thought I'd check to see if it's worth refinancing.

We currently have 5.25% fixed rate on a 15 year mortgage, last refinanced in 2005. The current lowest rate I can find for a similar mortgage is 4.875%. While the rate is lower, it's not really worth the fees and headaches.

When it drops to 4.75% or lower, I'll take another look.
