Cleveland, Day 7
Jul. 5th, 2008 11:22 pmHave I mentioned lately the days are very, very long?
I started with an hour-long Mainstream showcase beginning at 9-bloody-o'clock. For the most part, it went well: I had a full square at 9 AM and while none of us were particularly energetic, it was a good warm-up.
The second tip was really the best of the hour: I dug deep for some emergency reserves of perkiness and a second square joined us. The third & fourth tips weren't quite as spectacular... my perkiness (and caffeine) was starting to fade and I noticed Ed Foote sitting to the side, ready for his following hour; I don't know him at all but in my sleep-deprived mind, he was evaluating me critically and I had a sudden attack of nerves. I utterly blew the singing call early on but still managed to get everyone home with their partner wiht minimal disgrace by the end of the tip. The next tip floundered as some folks were changing sexes, throwing me off.
From my Mainstream set, I scooted upstairs to provide moral support for
billeyler's and
krisjensen's "Intro to Calling" open forum. I'm delighted to report that two people attended because they heard one of my three announcements at my Mainstream hour. It was a fun session with a half-dozen complete novices and a handful of folks from our caller schools of the past few years. Barry Clasper,
sethl and
otterpop58 were also present in support of the panel.
I had fun at the bear tip later in the morning... photos to follow.
The rest of my day was nearly entirely taken up with staffing our DC Diamond Circulate registration table. Registration and shirt sales were chugging along very well... I'm sure we'll be delighted with the final numbers when this weekend is over.
We began flogging the 50/50 tickets at the cocktail hour, continuing through the banquet. Our pride quilt raffle was one by the wife of one of the callers while a Times Square dancer walked away with the $1,666 50/50 jackpot. I'm looking forward to the revenue totals from both of these.
In other news, I'm delighted to report that we finally got the flooring contract signed for our convention: $13,200 total expense for 33,000 square feet of flooring. One more contract down, only a couple more to go.
My evening was then spent schmoozing and photographing men around the lounge. Much fun was had, some of which I'll write up at a future time. :-)
