Sunday Madness
Apr. 20th, 2008 10:13 pmI was awake far too early this morning. That is, some time around 9:30 AM. I hate doing that on weekends... it's totally unnatural, IMHO.
It's been raining all day, sometimes light, sometimes as though we were being swept out to sea. It's actually been nice to watch: at least I didn't have to walk or drive in it.
Our weekend guests hit the road back to some hellish backwater of south-west Virginia (redundant, yeah, I know) in the morning while we took care of some last minute preparations for a square dance caller workshop at our place.
We had about 16 people over for 12-3 PM to dance as new callers Abe Feldman and Blaine Knupp called Mainstream and Plus. This session was largely free-form: the guys were able to work on whatever they wanted as they pleased.
kent4str and I would occasionally help with sight resolution and a few tips for flow during the breaks.
To give Abe and Blaine a break at the half-time, we called & sight-resolved Advanced figures. I could use more practice calling A2 extemporaneously but it's largely a matter of confidence rather than my knowledge of the level.
We're planning to do this again Sunday, June 1, so the boys will have more experience under their belt before the GCA caller school.
Once everyone cleared out, it took only a half-hour to clean up the house again. I spent the rest of the afternoon editing & updating some A1 figures and making one recording to send to
rlegters and
tdjohnsn in Seattle... I'll work on more tomorrow.
cuyahogarvr has returned from New York and immediately crawled into bed. At this point, I have absolutely no idea how well the weekend went or how far into the C1 level they managed to get. On the presumption they didn't make it entirely through the list, we may try putting together a study group for next weekend to cover the balance, then possibly another workshop to refresh them before our next Barkley Squares C1 night on April 30 (I'm calling).
Off to bed soon, I think... *snore*
