Twilight Zone
Jan. 21st, 2008 11:02 amTo day is an official holiday from my Dear Employer. Alas, since I'm the UNIX primary point-of-contact this week, I'm technically on duty anyway although it means little more than carrying the pager constantly and not being too far away from a telephone and/or terminal.
I'm not thrilled about being in this employer created twilight zone of working/not working, but it's better than being compelled to drive to Urbana to sit in my cube and do nothing for eight hours, especially since it's 80% certain there will be no issues today. If nothing else, I can spend the day working on misc domestic chores around the house effectively on the company tab.

This morning, I did some office work via telecommuting but not much: I'm technically on-call but it's still an office holiday, dammit. The single work ticket in my name was my own fault as I created & scheduled it forgetting today would be a holiday. Ah, well... it was trivial to execute.
I did some laundry this afternoon but not much else. The cold weather seemed to seep deeply into my bones: I just couldn't feel comfortably warm for the early part of the day. In the early afternoon, I simply parked myself on the living room couch, wrapped in a heavy comforter and nibbling bon-bons. Life doesn't get much better than this. Ahhh!
My productivity resumed in the late afternoon, allowing me to work on a few other minor projects before we trucked downtown to join the bears for half-price burgers at Mr. Henry's. I ate far too much... I should have stopped eating the chunky fries, oh, 30 minutes earlier. I think I also drank four large glasses of Coke Classic: they just kept refilling the damn things. My kidneys are now in overdrive and I'll be running to the bathroom every half-hour for the rest of the night.
We're now watching "Life After People" on the History Channel while the bed sheets tumble in the dryer. I'm not keen on returning to work tomorrow but at least it will be a slightly abbreviated work week.
