Random Updates
Jan. 17th, 2008 08:20 amI'm feeling much more energetic and functional than yesterday, thank god. Can I do yesterday over? I promise to make it more productive this time.
The past few nights at home have been very quiet. With Michael
cuyahogarvr travelling abroad and no square dance events on Tuesday or Wednesday,
kent4str and I largely sat around the house, watching a little TV, reheating leftovers to clean out the fridge and generally being domestic.
Last night, I finished prepping the minutes from our meeting of the 2009 IAGSDC convention, sorted some square dance calling notes and uploaded them to my Palm Pilot, read a little and goofed off on the Internet for bit. It's the goofing off that sucked up most of my spare time; I was originally planning to crawl off to bed by 10 PM but didn't get there until 11:30 PM.
The weather forecast for today is promising all sorts of winter nastiness but I'll believe it when I see it. There are predictions of 3-6" snow to the north and west of DC with a light dusting on DC itself; I predict much less snow in the NW and sleet for DC. Check with me at the end of today to see who was right.
kent4str is supposed to be calling MS/Plus for the DC Lambda Squares tonight so he'll be watching for DC area closings to see if he has a gig or coming home sooner than expected.
Work has taken a change for the interesting. My senior director sent me an e-mail with a list of 2008 projects, declaring that he views me as a key person for their implementation. I responded with my selections from the list and will follow-up with him when I see him next. I'm intentionally shooting for projects with Solaris 10, Solaris 10 containers & Linux virtualization with a hope of maintaining a semi-marketable skillset of some variety. These would be in addition to my regular and comparatively mundane tasks: Solaris 8 maintenance, hardware upgrades and such.
We've also been informed that the 2007 performance reviews are largely complete and we should get our results within the next two weeks. Adjustments to our salaries and/or bonuses will be made in February. This is nearly a full month ahead of how these have occurred over the past five years I've been a full-time employee. Personally, I'm not expecting much: last year wasn't exactly a banner year for me personally and we're in budget cutting mode across the board. We'll know in a couple of weeks.
