Final Mainstream Class!
Dec. 19th, 2006 08:44 amLast night's square dance class went very well. At one point, we were a few bodies shy of three squares, an excellent turn-out for a square dance class.
We had already danced our way through the entire Mainstream list so this session was dedicated to reviewing the list, taking a little extra time to drill the newest calls and adding the common flourishes the new dancers will likely encounter on the dance floor. Per usual, they ate it all up: they had both the 'weave the ring' and 'grand square' variances flawlessly by the second repeat and the other simpler flourishes they absorbed immediately. They're a hot bunch!
To our surprise, they also pooled funds to purchase
kent4str & I a gift: matching belt buckles!
After some additional dancing and announcements, we thanked the participating angels and encouraged the new graduates to come angel the next MS class starting in January --as well as encouraging them to bring their friends & family to the January 8 open house. We closed with two singing calls, ending almost precisely at 9:30 PM. Another surprise:
kent4str and I were placed in the center of the big thank-you ring at the end of the session, the first time I've been so honoured.
It was the last of a series of fourteen Mondays and while I've had great fun, I'm also glad to have my Mondays back and to ease the load on an overburdened schedule. We won't be teaching next semester's MS class (but we were asked!), chosing to instead attend
justetthon's C1 dances to get more challenge-level floor time. If asked again for a summer series or next fall, we'll likely say yes if we can accommodate the scheduling.
