bjarvis: (sleeping)
I didn't sleep worth a damn last night.

For starters, I shouldn't have turned on the TV set in the early evening. Around 9 PM, I wanted to park my butt on the couch to reward myself a little for tackling a number of other items earlier in the day. Then I became engrossed in "The Chronicles of Riddick" on TNT. It's not a great movie but the visuals & sets are pretty good --someone opened their wallet wide for this one. It kept me watching more or less continuously until 11:30 PM. By the time I was actually in bed, it was already past midnight. And that's when I found myself staring at the ceiling.

I'm not sure exactly when I finally drifted off to sleep but it was late and not particularly restful.

This morning, I'm at my desk about 15 minutes late --still hours before anyone else on my team will appear-- but I have a roaring headache and am not especially cheery.

May this day pass quickly. At least I have no activities booked for tonight.

Vacation

Odd... the MS Outlook calendar at work seems to have lost a great number of vacation entries for 2007. I'm sure I booked off more than is currently displayed; oddly, the dates I booked in 2008 and 2009 are still listed.

I've re-entered vacation dates in February, March, April, May, October and November. With two exceptions, these are single days to make long weekends and largely centered around square dancing; I'm planning 4 days in Ontario in mid-May for my grandmother's 80th birthday and 10 days in May for the Denver IAGSDC convention. July 4 lands on a Wednesday this year so I'm uncertain whether to take Mon & Tues of that week off, or take the Thurs & Fri off. As a precautionary measure, I booked out the whole week to ensure no one else on my team can grab the dates before me. :-)

I hate sloppy journalism.

Consider the following article, "Embattled lesbian fire chief to step down". Read the article, then ask yourself: what city are they talking about?

A search for the chief's name in google told me it's Minneapolis, but I had to go externally for something which should have been included. Sure, if the article was originally written for the home town paper it might be obvious but any journalist should know that their work will be distributed electronically and potentially show up anywhere: it's simply a poor practise to not include a clue. Just changing the lead in the second paragraph "Mayor R.T. Rybak announced..." to "Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak announced..." would have been sufficient.

Annoying.
