This year, we had square dance callers Warren Jaquith, Dave Wilson and Mike Kellogg. Alas, Mike's flight was delayed so
kent4str,
rlegters and I shared hosting in Mike's first calling block (Mainstream). The crowd was enthusiastic and
rlegters did some beautiful singing calls. I wish I had his voice.
I had lots of fun in the "intro to C1" Saturday morning with Dave as well as the C1 workshop with Mike later in the afternoon. For the most part, everything went fairly smoothly although I was too brain-dead for lack of sleep to dance C1 effectively at any other time. I did manage to join several A2 sessions and hopped in to fill out squares in MS and Plus when required.
kent4str and I co-hosted the GCA calling hour, a block of MS calling in the early afternoon of Saturday.
rlegters started the hour, followed by Alan Hirsch of Colorado. Alas, it was a struggle to get enough dancers to complete a square as the weather was amazingly warm & sunny: many folks left the hotel to check out the surrounding village. As the hour drew to a close,
kent4str and I shared a tip, wrapping up at the top of the hour precisely.
Attendance at the country & western dance seemed higher than usual, although interestingly there were almost none of the LGBT community of Harpers Ferry joining us. I wonder if word didn't circulate sufficiently in advance about the event.
discord35 won the 50/50 draw of $265. Lucky bitch. :-)
The Sunday wrap-up was easier than I thought it would be. Many folks who travelled long distance left shortly after lunch but we still had very energetic and enthusiastic squares on the floor until closing at 2 PM. Packing the luggage, stationery, sound systems and various other small items into the minivan took less than one hour and we were on the road home by 3 PM or so.
Done for another year! Or at least until February when we do it all over again for our advanced & challenge square dance event (ACDC). :-)
