Our flight to Seattle was possibly the smoothest I've ever experienced. Check-in at Dulles was routine, the flight was on time, there was no turbulence to speak of and the landing was 10 minutes ahead of schedule. The airline gods must have heard my plea for a seat in a row without screaming babies: while there was a couple of loud infants, they were many rows away and I was able to sleep unhindered.

Fetching our rental car was a little more interesting as the pick-up point for the shuttle wasn't clearly marked. We did flag down the shuttle as it passed though, although the bus had to take a rather convoluted path through a residential neighbourhood to get to the rental agency's base thanks to an unrelated multi-car accident. The agency upgraded us from a Dodge Stratus to a Subaru Outback; the extra luggage capacity will be welcome later in the week when we head to Vancouver.

Mapquest gave us very detailed directions from the rental agency to our hotel. Sadly, they were also incorrect. It is not possible to make a left off of northbound Aurora Avenue. In fact, it's not possible to make a right either for a few miles. While there is a U-turn opportunity clearly marked for the first couple of intersections, the signs vanished before completely bringing us back to Aurora so we were lost & abandoned in yet another unfamiliar residential neighbourhood. Yay.

With some effort, much map checking and great frustration, we did ultimately find our hotel. Alas, our room wasn't ready yet. OK, off to [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn & [livejournal.com profile] rlegters' house.

[livejournal.com profile] rlegters was home waiting for us while [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn was at work. After some chatting, meeting the cats and such, we headed off into the downtown of Seattle for various errands and site-seeing.

[livejournal.com profile] tdjohsn arrived at home around 6 PM or so. After a little relaxation, we were off to dinner at St. Clouds.

Alas, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str was feeing tired & jetlagged so we headed back to the hotel relatively soon after dinner.

I'm not a big fan of mornings but we had a full day planned. [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and I headed to meet the guys at their house, then we all piled into the Outback to head downtown. We took the ferry across to Bainbridge Island, dropped [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn at work, then proceeded to Poulsbo for breakfast at the Ya Betcha Cafe. From there, we spent the rest of the morning & afternoon being tourists in Port Townsend and Fort Worden. Towards 4 PM, we collected [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn from work, hopped the ferry back to Seattle and fed the cats. We had a lovely Thai dinner at Sabai Sabai before heading to the regular Thursday evening Mainstream square dance class [livejournal.com profile] rlegters has been teaching.

There about half-way through the Mainstream course and have a lot of enthusiasm. I had the pleasure of dancing in one of the warm-up & review tips; dancing girl is a little rusty for me so I was happy for the review & experience. [livejournal.com profile] rlegters has such a lovely singing voice... I could listen to him all night. sigh

Today, we're off to brunch with friends then on to Vancouver!

We ([livejournal.com profile] kent4str, the adorable & fuzzy [livejournal.com profile] rlegters, the hot & woofy [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn, and me of course) have made it to Vancouver BC in good time and found the hotel with no trouble. Troy is updating LJ, as am I; Kent is vegetating and we're all wondering about what to do for dinner.

More news as events warrant.
