bjarvis: (graduation cap)
Two days ago, I had a small anniversary: it was one year since I attended my graduation ceremony upon completion of my MSc at the University of Maryland.

As expected, having the degree hasn't made any significant difference in my work or personal life. The biggest gain is simply getting a huge chunk of my spare time back instead of channeling my resources into reading, research & writing.

So why do I care about the anniversary? My employer covered a significant portion of the tuition fees and book expenses, forgivable over 12 months following graduation. As of this past Sunday, I'm no longer an indentured servant to my employer: I can seek employment elsewhere without having to worry about paying back the tuition.

Ahhhhh...

The boarding passes are printed, our bags are packed and we're heading to Seattle tomorrow morning! Yay!

We're going to be primarily visiting with the west coast husbands [livejournal.com profile] rlegters and [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn, but are going to be visiting high school friends Beth and Stephan, attending some square dancing and generally being touristy. We'd love to meet up with other Seattle-area LJ'ers... we're planning to descend on St. Clouds on Thursday, 10 PM, for drinkies after dancing... drop by if you're available!

The four of us will be heading to Vancouver on Friday for the Unison 2006 festival... stay tuned for further details!
