bjarvis: (sleeping)
I haven't written anything in days. Rather than being for lack of anything to write, it's largely for lack of time in which to write it. Oy.

Good: Picking up Jerry & David from Columbus, OH, at the airport. I love man-watching at airports... there's such variety, relatively well-to-do (as opposed to the DC bus station) and the scenery changes frequently.

Very Good: Had a lovely time with co-trailer trash Jerry & David. We had dinners with friends, a few late night parties, a couple of local tours and largely just lazing about the house being two hopelessly domestic couples. Ah...

Not Good: My car's rear passenger window was smashed in while attending a friend's dinner party in downtown DC xmas eve.

Worse: Because of the holiday season, I couldn't get the window replaced for a week.

Worse Still: Since my car lacked any form of security with a garbage bag taped over the gaping hole, it had to stay parked in the garage while I drove the minivan --aka the Queen Mary-- to & from work, rendering me attractive only to soccer moms. Ew.

Better: My car was repaired yesterday so I'm not a soccer mom anymore. Since it's only a Honda Civic, I can't claim to be cool, but at least I'm no longer a lesbian.

Relaxation: One of Kent's xmas presents to me was a 2GB memory card/potato chip for my Palm Tungsten E. I had no idea the machine could handle the capacity but I'm now loading it up with podcasts from NPR, Slate and MarketPlace Take-Out to listen to in the car when I'm not rehearsing singing calls in my work commute. I've also just finished a delightful --to me, anyway-- history on the Atlantic cod fishery; I like oddball history books and this one's a keeper.

Sad: Returning Jerry & David home again on Monday.

Glad: I've purchased air fare to Columbus for the weekend of Feb. 3-5 to visit and collectively attend the Roseland Campground reunion.

Where-The-Hell-Did-That-Come-From?!: Work has been extremely light the past two weeks, thanks to the holidays. Now that everyone is back at the office, deferred projects are suddenly gearing up again. New projects are being started --I'm installing 19 Sun Microsystems V490 servers in the next two weeks and have been drafted into a Sarbanes-Oxley procedure compliance committee-- and a number of people from my team are either on vacation or temporarily exiled to the night shift. I'm the only team member left in our Urbana data center and my telephone never stops ringing.

Dread: We're hosting an A2 calling workshop on Saturday, 12-3 PM. I'm kinda looking forward to it as an opportunity to polish my A2 sight calling but we have to whip the house into shape and go shopping for refreshments prior. At least the basement where we'll be dancing has been cleaned up.

Anticipation: Mid-Atlantic Leather in a week, where we hope to see [livejournal.com profile] apparentparadox. Andy-rama in two weeks when we get to see [livejournal.com profile] otterpop58. Three weeks: I'm planning a birthday skating party for my 39th... more news later.

That's life in a nutshell. I'm going to get some sleep now.
