This morning, I had to upgrade the operating system of a Sun Microsystems E450 from Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 8. I've done it literally hundreds of times before so it's largely a no-brainer. However, a disk upgrade was also required so I had to be at the office in person to begin the process rather than initiating it from home so it could be in progress while I drove to work.
Since the work was to begin at 6 AM, my alarm was set for 4:30 AM. Ugh.
Despite getting up at an ungodly hour and trudging to work on time for my part of the project, the database weasels weren't quite as timely: we actually started an hour late. That wasn't a big deal overall, but it could have been another hour of sleep otherwise.
Fortunately, the upgrade --both hardware and software-- is now complete and appears to be 100% successful. I am, however, very sleepy even though it's not yet 11 AM EST. I'll probably knock off early today with a side trip for a chocolate sundae on the way home.
The planet is hereby put on notice: nothing else is allowed to go wrong within my sphere of influence for at least 12 hours.
