Fall comes quickly in the DC area.

Last week, I became aware that the days are unmistakably shorter: the skies outside the bathroom window as I showered in the morning were very dark, even at 7 AM.

On Sunday of this week, almost all trees were still clearly green. By Tuesday, I could spot yellow leaves. While driving to work Thursday morning, I noted organge and red colours, and clouds of leaves were blowing across the highway when strong winds blew. Today, it's cool and rainy.

Cold mornings and needing to wear a light jacket aren't too far away. The first frosts of the season should happen in another month, followed by completely denuded trees and early evenings.

I wish I had more spare time available to enjoy the sights at this time of year.

I've frequently commented to friends that the growing season where I grew up is very short. In fact, this year, it's August 2, 1-4 PM: don't miss it! :-)
