Easy Weekend

bjarvisI did accomplish a few things around the house this weekend, although nothing like as much as I had originally hoped.
The old frame for the storm door on the front of the house has finally been removed; the new storm door should be arriving in a couple of weeks.
The new photo albums and extra inserts arrived on Friday so I made time on Saturday to file away 257 photos (January 1, 2005 onwards).
The newly purchased QuickBooks Pro 2005 arrived in the mail Saturday. Holy program bloat! When I used QuickBooks in the late 1990s during my freelance contractor days, the entire package came on three floppies. The current incarnation occupies 550 MB of a CD-ROM and still required an additional 50 MB of downloads, updates & fixes.
Despite taking forever to load onto my laptop, I managed to set up the accounts and enter records of our square dance calling adventures since January 1, 2005. I actually enjoy bookkeeping & accounting quite a bit; it was a pleasure to spend time sorting through receipts, cross-referencing documentation with my events calendar and generally making sense of the records. I do sometimes wonder if I should have been an accountant instead of a geek.
We went out to a friend's party Saturday night but didn't go out to the bar with friends later as originally planned. We'll save that for another day.
I did manage to get to the local computer flea market on Sunday afternoon. My original intent was to get a replacement printer as my Lexmark inkjet making rather unpleasant noises with greater regularity. Ultimately, the only thing I bought at the sale was an extra USB cable so I can use iSync on the Mac to sync my Tungsten E. I'm still tempted to get additional memory for my Linux box and USB flash memory keychain but decided to keep the cash rather than blowing it on toys. When I have my credit cards entirely zeroed in another month, I'll revisit my shopping list.
The only other claim to activity was watching recordings from the Friday night line-up of the Sci Fi channel. The excitement! Woo! :-)
