Palm Trauma con't

The battle to get my Palm Tungsten E2 to play nice with my iMac continues.
On the advice of
jrhett, I looked again at Mark/Space's Missing Sync application. It has definite improved since I last looked at it, but it still seems terminally flaky.
I was having considerable problems getting the Bluetooth connectivity to behave itself so I've given up on that for the moment: I'm just using the USB cable for synchronization currently. I have a safe backup of all of my Palm data on my XP box so I can afford some degree of shenanigans from the configuration with the iMac.
The first attempt at syncing took over two hours instead of the three minutes it normally should. Not good. After disabling a number of features and playing with others, I've had some success, but it's still not right. I suspect the volume of data may be an issue: I have 1,455 address records and 3,317 event records. Since these all have to be stuffed into the iSync database (which doesn't itself appear to be particularly fast or efficient), there's a lot of overhead involved.
It took considerable effort, but the AvantGo conduit now behaves itself, as does the address book. The calendar/events portion, however, sucks bilge water: I can't get this feature to behave itself at all.
In a prior attempt, the sync went well but all events in my Palm vanished except for birthdays and some repeating events, although even the categories for these were lost. I wiped them and tried again. This time, I got everything except the birthdays & repeating events. I wiped everything and tried again. This time, I got two of every event --both one-off and repeaters. I wiped everything and tried again. This time, it's been syncing for almost two hours with no end in sight.
Colour me unimpressed.
I'm hoping there some trivial modification or adjustment I need to make for the successful initialization of the iSync databases, after which minor changes should be relatively quick & painless. I'll let you know if I get there.
