Eric H's 40th birthday party

We were delighted to join Cal & Eric at the Patterson House on Dupont Circle in DC to celebrate Eric's 40th birthday. It was a rather fancy place and Cal pulled out all the stops to celebrate: a great venue, hors d'oeuvres, open bar, a string quartet, entertainment and a wonderful buffet dinner.

My 40th comes up in January but it's not gonna be quite this good... :-)

that sounds like a fun event, but I can't imagine it even dawning on me to through a party like that for my birthday...or any one else's either. Is it just my lower-middle class upbringing being appalled, or do you just have to have a lot of expendable income and a lifestyle that I am totally unfamiliar with to think something like that up?

You guys do look nice in your suits though...

Cal is loaded. Most people would cut back when they accumulate too much stuff: Cal has an addition built onto the mansion. Three additions, in fact. There is a vast amount of storage space simply allocated to his xmas decorations (http://bjarvis.livejournal.com/55624.html). Bless his heart, he is generous with his good fortune and is a genuine sweetie. And hawt. :-)
