Weekend Report
Jun. 15th, 2008 09:30 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Saturday started far too early but it was so worth it.
justetthon and Linda hosted a C1 square dance workshop at their home, followed by a great potluck barbecue in the backyard. The dancing was fun and there were occasional little gotchas which will be invaluable for future dances.
I had to leave early to collect my ex, John, from BWI; he's with us until Monday morning when I deliver him to a conference at the Baltimore harborfront.
After lunch, we stopped at home to change clothes and pick up equipment, then headed into downtown DC for the annual DC pride parade. In the same fashion as prior years, the DC Lambda Squares had a pickup truck carrying the calling equipment while
kent4str and I walked alongside, calling when the parade paused and otherwise announcing our club, our upcoming open house, etc..

Of course, nothing goes without a hitch. The power system for our calling equipment was flaky and would kick out at the damnest times. Worst of all though, half-way through the parade, it began raining. We tossed a tarp over the equipment to protect it as best we could but there was no respite for the rest of us: we got drenched. Thoroughly. We billed ourselves as the DC Soggy Squares.
As soon as the parade was over, we headed for home, dried out and ordered chinese food for dinner.
We were able to sleep in a little Sunday morning but not for long. After a quick brunch at a local diner, <user site="livejournal.com" user="kent4str">, John and I headed to the pride festival on Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Shortly after 2 PM, we jointly called a 20 minute block with a single demo square, took a little time to wander around the festival and headed for home again by mid-afternoon. There wasn't any rain but all of us were feeling the intense sun.

John and I did a quick tour of the grounds of the Canadian embassy. It's a lovely building, but I was most grateful for the chance to cool myself off at the fountain.

I spent the balance of the day sorting & labelling the collected photos. John was able to use his photoshop magic to modify a photo I'm planning to use for square dance caller business cards too, bless him.
We're currently vegetating around the house... we all need a good night's sleep now.
