bjarvis: (Chesapeake Squares)

Tonight's calling gig for the Chesapeake Squares was fun and a little different. I was in particularly good shape tonight, having had a quick nap at home in the late afternoon and warming up in the car during the drive to Baltimore. A last minute blast of sugar & caffeine probably didn't hurt either.

We had only eight dancers so we kept the tips relatively short and let the breaks run a few minutes longer than usual to let everyone socialize and rest as desired.

Nearly everyone was an A2 dancer or higher but one of our happy crowd danced Plus only so we kept to that level most of the night. Just for fun, a couple of people suggested I teach a couple of C1 calls. I was on a roll and our Plus dancer thought it would be fun too so I selected two calls during a break which would be easy extensions of Plus: "chase your neighbor" and "follow through."

As expected, the Plus/A2 crowd absorbed these easily and we used them extensively during the tip. All went smoothly; my only regret is that I wasn't quite on-the-ball enough to incorporate the calls into the singer following.

The group opted to finish the evening a little early, by about 20 minutes but I'm declaring it a successful evening in full.
