Saturday, Part II

My errands in the early afternoon continued. Since we're hosting a board meeting of DC Diamond Circulate, the 2009 IAGSDC convention, Sunday 2-5 PM, I needed to dash out to stock up on refreshments. I blew about $77 on various items, not all of it required for the meeting. I also managed to combine the shopping expedition with a trip to the bank to deposit a check so I felt productive despite the annoyance of traffic and long lines.
We spent the late afternoon at a birthday get-together for one of our square dance friends, Rich Harrison. He actually celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday but they opted for a daytime drop-in rather than an evening event. Rich is still one of the hottest men I've ever met... see below and judge for yourself.
Following the birthday bash, we stopped in Arlington to collect the square dance calling equipment for the DC Lambda Squares. It has been held by Warren Jaquith for many years but with his passing in February and the Harper's Ferry Hoedown event coming up in a month, it was time to contact Tom to see about retrieving the equipment.
Tom still wants to sort through the vast library of music and other items to dispose of them as he feels Warren would have wanted; he'll be back in touch when he's ready. In all probability, Kent & I will likely hold a large quantity of the inventory in trust for the next generation of local square dance callers, just as Abe held much of Tom Holloran's calling equipment before passing it along to
kent4str and me. Warren and I frequently talked about getting together to listen to each others' music collection but we never did; I'm looking forward to finally having the opportunity, one-sided though it may be.
Once home,
kent4str dashed off to Home Depot to obtain the required 2x4's to complete the stage pieces he's building for DC's Different Drummers. I headed to the laundromat for the second time today and was successful this time in getting a mega-washer for our huge comforter. I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep snuggled under the blanket.
