C1 Boot Camp

My little project of assembling a C1 square dance class seems to be doomed: I'm not able to find enough dancers who are willing to meet the given criteria to make the class viable. I'm not overly surprised since the restrictions were rather tight; I'm also happy to have the project crash at this early stage than run out of fuel half-way through the class itself.
And this is why I always keep a Plan B, C and D in my back pocket. :-)
Ett held out of the possibility of an intensive weekend C1 boot camp. After talking up this possibility with the few other potential C1 dancers, I've learned that Dayle Hodge had already been approached for the same thing. He's still keen on the idea of a Friday night through Sunday afternoon C1 boot camp so I'm now talking with him about ironing out a location and date.
More news as it develops.

Date: 2006-04-18 05:16 pm (UTC)Kris J learned C3A with a weekend like that, but since there's no C3 dancing within 800 miles of us in any direction, it was tough to reinforce the learning. I'm not sure how confident she is with that, since she only dances it once or twice a year.
I'm just over 1/2 through with teaching my C1 class here...we started in January, and the process has slowed down so much it's tough to get 2 calls in new every week, since they grump if I haven't covered the calls from every position. They're VERY weak about even looking at the definitions beforehand, much less memorizing them.
I've added a once a month 2 hour Sunday review at C1, but with 50 calls (so far) to review, it's a challenge.
The flip side is that I taught myself C1 by myself dancing to Ed Foote tapes over a two week period. But few have the resources and dedication to do that.
Wishing you luck on this quest!

Date: 2006-04-19 04:06 am (UTC)Our aspirations after such a C1 weekend aren't too high... I'll be content with general familiarity with the concepts & figures, and some knowledge of the most frequently used forms of calls. I expect everyone to read through the C1 list prior, and to study & reflect on it after. Since Dayle regularly calls for our A/C nights, we should be able to easily persuade him to call some gentle C material until we're up to full speed.
Of course, if I can't get 10 A2-proficient dancers in the next month or so, event this plan will be shelved.
