In a nutshell, cargo & personnel capacity.

We spend a lot of time running lights & sound for local community groups. Kent builds a lot of sets & props as well. During the summer, we head to the trailer in West Virginia as often as possible. During the square dancing season, we frequently carpool extra dancers & their luggage to various regional events.

We've had a lot of success with prior minivans being able to haul stage equipment & tools, as well as people. The Grand Caravan has seating for seven adults and the rear seats can be stowed to allow enough internal capacity to haul 4x8 sheets of plywood, something we couldn't do with prior vehicles. The interior space is secure, climate controlled and comfortable, and the GC has better gas milage than most SUVs or pickups.

In short, the minivan was the best compromise for the list of tasks.

When there's only the pair of us, we typically use my Honda Civic LX (in the photo, just behind the Caravan) as it is more fuel efficient and vastly easier to park.
