I've tried most of the national carriers over the past few years, and I've always come back to Verizon. Not because they're the best, but because they're the least-bad. At least in the SF Bay Area, and the cities I tend to vist the most (Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, Salt Lake City).
(Or as one of my engineers at work put it, "Verizon is the least suckiest.")
