You're half right. I've been a member of the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Toronto since its founding in 1992 (perfect 0 attendance record for the 8 years I've lived in DC but they're happy to cash my cheque), as well as the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington DC since 1996. In the former, I was the sign language interpreter: I was on stage with the rest but with no voice (literally & figuratively) of my own. With the DC chorus, I'm simply backstage help. I'm much more at home behind the scenes as the an enabler for others than being a performer.
