I'm not concerned about traces of red in my urine after an especially heavy workout: it's a very short-term thing and clears quickly. Sadly, I've also had enough experiences with kidney stones and their damage to know when there's something truly amiss.
For the BMI measurements, I'm using the Omron HBF-306CN (http://www.amazon.com/Omron-Logic-Monitor-model-HBF-306C/dp/B00006WNPU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379437564&sr=8-2&keywords=omron+hbf-306cn). Yup, it's BMI and percentage body fat values can only be crude estimates: the only true measurement would involve a complete immersion tank. Still while they may not be directly of much value, I'm watching the delta in the percentage fat, watching for monthly/quarterly progress.
