Fortunately, if all else failed, I had a backup plan: reschedule my return flight to Wednesday, call any number of friends for a ride to Santa Clara to retrieve my license and beg a couch somewhere (or stay at an airport hotel) for the night. It would have been inconvenient and screwed up my work schedule for Wednesday and possibly Thursday, but my office would have covered the extra expense.
