Hmm… twisted, cruel, and unusual. No wonder I like you ;-)
That said, I do try to not throw stuff out, and fix things rather than buy replacements when I can. It doesn't always work out as planned (damned headphone wires are actually so thin, you can't re-solder them, as they're also bonded to the plastic sheath).
