Executive summary: nothing to see here.

The storm has come & gone. While we still have light showers and overcast skies, the wind is non-existent. Indeed, we barely got more than a few gusts all night and while it rained steadily from 4pm to the present, it was never torrential or excessive.

The electricity flickered a few times, mostly around 2am or so. The satellite tv signal was intermittent but never died completely for more than a few seconds.

We're the exception though: there are large swathes of the greater DC area (mostly the east and south-east of DC) which are without electricity and our county gov't is warning of over 100 intersections without working traffic lights. The transit system is starting back up on a regular Sunday scheduled this morning.

In all, I hope NYC fares as well as we did.

Lost power in Fairfax from about 2:30am until 9:15am. All my sunflowers were knocked over, but otherwise good. :)

I'm glad the effects of the storm were minimal for you. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, my commute from my home in Brenham to work in Houston took me 3 hours each way, in great part because traffic lights were out for a couple of weeks.

The storm did create situations in which people died. I suspect the tornadoes spawned from this storm were as dangerous as the potential for flooding this dense corridor of humanity you all live in.

After Katrina, the national sensitivity for storm damage was hyper-ramped up. I don't fault the hysteria the media tries to whip up--more precautions were taken for this storm than I've ever remember in the past. Shutting down entire transportation systems in major metropolitan areas is a huge deal.

I'm glad you all weren't adversely affected. Kudos to the linemen that have to repair all the power outages today and Monday.

OK, if no one else is going to ask it will be me. What were you doing up at 2 am? Were you partying? :)
