We're skipping the television package... Dish Network is doing a fine job currently and I'm hesitant to tamper with anything which is already problem-free.
As for the battery issue on the ONT: yeah, I'm planning to get some supplemental UPS when I learn more about the ONT load and in-house location. One of the things which has kept me from FIOS thus far was knowing that we'd even lose the house telephone after only 8 hours whereas the current copper line connections would provide power from the telco for days. Since we all have mobile phones and I can recharge those via a power inverter from the cars, that's less of an issue now, even though our local power company has an abysmal track record.
