I think this is the real problem here, so I agree with you. I think we're still in the adaptive/novelty phase of all this new technology. I think that what he is really saying is that we haven't reached a new equilibrium, where the new technology is integrated into our lives in a balanced way. The rules of etiquette need to be rewritten. Expectations need to adjust. People just don't friggin' realize when they need to turn something off. Not everyone has your self-discipline.
