I'm not sure why you'd have to go thru the mental challenge of 'writing' singing calls.
For me, the biggest gain is in doing these activities myself and forcing myself to consider various elements in the choreo. Writing my own improves my ability to create something new & novel on the fly or recover quickly if my square goes to hell. Yeah, it takes a lot more time & effort but memorizing other people's work doesn't yield me the same benefit.
I suspect I'll look at the existing material first for style and structure, then write a stack of my own, then go back to the written materials to see what novel aspects wouldn't have occurred to me on my own and tweak my own accordingly.
