Wikipedia tells me this of Wallace's style:

His writing featured self-generated abbreviations and acronyms, long multi-clause sentences, and a notable use of explanatory footnotes and endnotes—often nearly as expansive as the text proper.
okay, okay, I spoze that fits. I was considerably less thrilled to learn that he was on antidepressants for twenty years, had electroconvulsive therapy, and committed suicide at age 46. He was a college professor. I could find no evidence of marital partner.
Oh well, at least I've outlived him for ten years and counting.
