My choices now seem limited to purchasing a wildly overpriced current QuickBooks package from some authorized vendor or switching to a cheaper accounting package. Bugger.
third choice: leave it on the desktop machine and continue with the it-was-working-yesterday-and-probably-will-tomorrow old version, on the it-wasn't-broken-so-don't-fix-it principle. Would have saved you all that hassle...
