Trailer Deck Maintenance

bjarvisThe deck has needed a good staining for a while. It was started two seasons ago but was never completed; it's long overdue for a proper job.
Yesterday, we cleared off the furniture and washed it down. Today, the staining began.

cuyahogarvr and I used a combination sponge mitts, sponge brushes and small rollers to tackle the handrails and railing spindles. In all, it took nearly four hours for this portion of the project. Ugh.
After a short break, we used a power sprayer to coat the floor decking along the backside of the trailer and 2/3 of the main deck to the south. We had sufficient stain to continue but doing so would have cut off our access to the trailer's only entrance. We've determined we need one more gallon to be able to finish the stairs and the support structure under the deck; looking closely at the photos below, you'll see the very light coloured wood still to be stained.
We're heading to town to purchase that remaining gallon shortly and we hope to have the rest done tomorrow. We're giving some consideration to a second coat in the high traffic areas... more news as it develops.
