I would imagine having the perp's taillights left at the scene of the carnage would be a good tip off to a well observant cop to begin with for not having taillights at night or even if the lens' were broken out is a no, no and would cause suspicion, especially if stopped and I would suspect he did get stopped somewhere along the way.
