Guess where I was for lunch today?

I suspect it's called "Five Guys Burgers & Fries" because one needs five people with healthy appetites to eat the enormous quantities of french fries shovelled into the bag. I needed nearly five minutes of eating just to find my burger at the bottom. And it was so worth it.

I still maintain the best french fries in the world are served in a paper cone and served from the back of a converted bus in the parking lot of a lakefront municipal park in any predominately francophone village in north-eastern Ontario or north-western Quebec. And served with ketchup, salt and vinegar as the good Lord decreed. Still, the fries I had today were in the top three I've enjoyed over the decades.

The trip home via the Metro was unexciting although I was back at the ranch for barely a half-hour before the office buzzed, requiring me to head to the data center in Virginia to swap an HBA card in an HP blade server. While I was there, I took care of some minor stuff I thought up overnight and composed a small shopping list of things I need.

Tonight, I'm calling a square dance in Baltimore, [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr will be square dancing in Virginia and [livejournal.com profile] kent4str will be passed out on the couch. That's how you'll know the universe is in complete equilibrium.

Looooove me some 5 Guys burgers. I haven't tried their fries though. I'm just not partial to fries in general.

Can't have them more than once or twice a year, but they're pretty freakin' good!

Yeah, I suspect I'm going to be doing penance for my cholesterol overload today, but it was a nice treat. In fact, it was a pleasant surprise as I hadn't known there was a new franchise on Dupont Circle in DC. I'll have to remember it for the next time I get a craving, say, October or so.

You are soooooo right about the best fries in the world (although I prefer them without the ketchup). Apparently they were served the same way at the beach on Lake Winnipeg too.

One five guys near here has a wooden post with all sorts of hand written messages on napkins and slips of paper from the customers.
My favorite was the one that said, "If my wife would let me, I'd do 5 Guys every day."

Ketchup is optional for me, depending on my mood. I miss the good stuff. *sigh*

There is a Five Guys across the street from where I work and it's a miracle I've managed not to eat there every day. Most Five Guys I've been to do indeed have vinegar bottles over where the ketchup is. Maybe you missed it?
