Annual performance evaluation

I'm working on my self-assessment for my annual performance review. I'd rather be pressing rusty nails through my palms.

My saving grace is that I will be done within an hour because I've kept detailed records of my work-related activities since 1996. I'd be done sooner except that my dear colleagues are popping up over the walls of my cube to ask me what they accomplished earlier this year.

I'm going to seriously need a chocolate sundae when this is done.

I only had to do that one time and hated every second of working on it.

This is my 3rd time through at this particular employer; I had the joy of being an observer to the process for the three years previous.

What amazes me is that each annual review process bears no resemblance whatsoever to any prior year's: it's as though HR feels obligated to offer a totally new experience each time, trying desperately to refresh a stale sitcom. The firm has been around since 1932... one would think they'd have a well-refined system in place by now instead of re-inventing the wheel each time.

I've had to do one of those each of the last five years I've been at my company, too. I've pretty much had the same experience.

I started keeping a record this year, though, in a spreadsheet complete with relevance to company credo and how it relates to corporate objectives.

/sigh

A friend of mine suggested scouring a bunch of geek magazine articles for acronyms, then inserting them randomly through my self-assessment so that the HR department can see how "current" and buzzword-compliant we are with the latest technology. :-)

OMG...I had downloaded my annual self-evaluation review to my laptop that I took to Louisiana. It was on my desktop, but was TOTALLY out of my radar...until I just read this. I HAD planned to work on it over the 9 days I was out of town. It's due on the director's desk in the morning.

I won't sweat this one. Yeesh.
