well, actually, it's at the discretion of the Governor-General. And once he hands in his resignation, she's not bound by his advice.
Definitely a theoretical possibility, but I have better odds of being hit by lightening on my drive to work tomorrow. :-)
As for no campaigning Dec 23-Jan 3, I'll believe it when I see it. Whoever is behind in the polls will be compelled to proceed with campaigning to catch up; if the polls are tied, all sides will push to get an edge. Even if all do honour the agreement not to campaign, special interest groups and individual candidates may yet keep campaigning but on a more restrained simmer.
