My personal Sony Vaio laptop travels with me to work regularly. When I have spare time during lunch, I use it for composing square dance choreography or updating/amending existing sequences and such.

We have a separate laptop with a much larger screen we use for regular or joint calling gigs. It's kept relatively pure: no extra software or such on it to ensure we don't suffer unexpected Windows crashes in the middle of a dance or such. I update it regularly with the choreo files from my personal laptop.

Yesterday, I attempted to copy my latest & greatest from my Vaio, mostly some amended C1 sequences from my latest challenge gig. The power supply is dead. I didn't notice it previously and the laptop must have been running on batteries so now there's not a volt of juice left to get to newest files. And of course we're calling tonight for DCLS and tomorrow for Zig Zaggers.

I've ordered a replacement power supply via eBay for $20. Hoping for faster gratification (and a spare), we did a quick dash to Radio Shack: they had a universal power supply for most models of laptops but priced at $100. No, thanks.

Just to get at my current files, I'm going to crack open the case and transplant the hard drive into a USB-connected external drive case. Please keep the patient laptop in your thoughts for the next few hours.
