In square-dance-land, every so often a club will host a convention -- they have several dances spread over the days of the weekend - evenings and daytime. People will attend from neighbouring, and far-away other clubs, travelling distances and frequently flying in to the host city.
The Cleveland City Country Dancers have for many years hosted their annual fly-in on the Columbus Day weekend (aka Thanksgiving up here in the Frozen Northland.)
I believe (though my memory may well be faulty here) that Cleveland's fly-in is usually called Load the Boat (named for a square dance call). I used to be a member of Toronto's Triangle Squares, and their fly-in, again if memory serves, is on US Memorial Day weekend. (that's not a holiday weekend in Canada, but it makes travelling easier for those flying in from the USA, and for those in Toronto, travel time isn't an issue).
