From the weather desk...

The temperature is supposed to reach 98 degrees F this afternoon. With the humidity, it will feel closer to 105F.

Excuse me... my owner's manual and design specifications clearly state that I'm supposed to be kept in an environment ranging from -20F to 75F.

Bleh.

summer was going to arrive sooner or later...of course with all the rain stopped..another season will be here by weeks end...

Killer Mosquito Season....

Time to buy stock in Off Products again.

Our air quality is so bad, the humans can barely survive. :-^

remind why it is called "the Joy of Summer" again?

[identity profile] kent4str.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously a phrase coined by either a teacher or a student. Bastards.

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all marketing and spin. Winter and spring are joyful, fall is calming and summer is pure death.

If only our local ice hockey arena had wifi...

[identity profile] brunorepublic.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know my take on this is the exact opposite. Summer is the only time I feel alive. Now if all those other people would just quit their whining and stop dying of heat stroke, I could really enjoy it.

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Much more weather like this and I will gladly join the "dying of heat stroke" crowd. I'm no longer a fan of global warming.

-20F?! You ARE from canada, aren'cha?

[personal profile] apparentparadox 2007-07-10 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking that his owner's manual should have specified -28c to 24c, although -28c to 28c would have looked better in print.

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
My manual was written 10 years before Canada went metric. I suspect my parents lost the original copy on the way home from the hospital anyway since I'm assured my current state of retardation is due to being dropped on my head a few too many times.

metric heat

[identity profile] trawnapanda.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
stop making excuses! all gummint stuff is metric now, and it's been backdated. if you don't convert, we may not let you back in to the country.

however...

you were not born in new liskeard, you were hatched at south waterloo memorial hospital, in what is now Cambridge ON. That means your thermostats were factory-set for southern ontario. Right now in Cambridge, it's 30C, and with the humidity that feels like 40C.

I'm not really sure what these quaint "farenheit" thingoes are that you cite; but I understand that 40C is equivalent to 104F. So, as I said, stop whingeing. You're presently within design tolerances for a Cambridge ON native.

Are you sweaty and stuff?

Because I kind of like that ....

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, hot & sweaty for all the wrong reasons... :-(

[identity profile] kent4str.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Self-basting.

[identity profile] snowboardjoe.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, same here. Felt like ass yesterday. According to home weather station, it hit 93°F yesterday with a peak heat index of 100°F.

Even walking outside this morning in the sun feels like it's just baking you to death and it's only in the 80's. Supposed to be more humid today.

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
If it weren't for air conditioning, I couldn't possibly tolerate this climate: I'd have to move back north again to preserve my remaining sanity.

How did anyone survive, let alone be productive, in this environment before the invention of AC? It boggles my little mind.

[identity profile] kent4str.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
We didn't have AC until I was in 4th grade, and then it was just window units that didn't work very well. And we survived.

Not that I'd live long without central air now. All hail the great god Freon!

[identity profile] trawnapanda.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)

did you have to walk six miles to and from school when you were young? barefoot? uphill both ways??

I'm fairly sure brian did, but in his case it was barefoot in the snow.

(we didn't have this problem in England, but then, I didn't own a pair of long trousers until I was 10, so the knees got chilly even without snow)

[identity profile] kent4str.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Hell, no! We were driven to and from school by lunatics in WWI-surplus buses, over unpaved and poorly-blased trails...

I'm jealous

[identity profile] cuyahogarvr.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Bummer, it's only 93F here with only 39% humidity. Tomorrow, it's only supposed to be 80F. WTF!

Re: I'm jealous

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll get to experience this, ahem, joy soon enough.

Re: I'm jealous

[identity profile] ljtourist.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, he will. The heat wave is arriving tomorrow on the west coast, and will be snaking its way across the country. Probably hit Ohio, oh, Saturday. :->

Yay!! Heat!!!! It's 99F here!!! Did I say Yay yet!!!

[identity profile] ted-badger.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow.

Ok, I'm done complaining about the heat here... 98?!
